The Ukrainian parliament decided on November 13 to postpone a vote that would have paved the way for the release of Yulia Tymoshenko. The release of the opposition leader is one of the conditions imposed by the EU for the signature of an association agreement at the Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius to be held on November 28 and 29.

The members of the majority and the opposition failed to reach agreement on a law that would have allowed Tymoshenko, who has been in prison since 2010 and is suffering from a back condition, to seek medical treatment abroad.

Although the vote has been postponed until November 19 and the representatives of the European Parliament, Poland’s Aleksander Kwasniewski and Ireland’s Pat Cox, are still hoping for a solution, Den mourns the fact that —
