Lockdowns in Europe

by host

Since March, Martin Bertrand has been documenting the Coronavirus crisis in Europe. On a continental scale, common measures such as the wearing of face masks on public transportation and physical distancing can be found. But the Netherlands has chosen to be less drastic: initially relying on the strategy of collective immunity, the Dutch population was not initially confined.

At the European Parliament in Brussels, Bertrand witnessed the discussion on the European Union’s corona Recovery Plan. This place, which is usually full of people from all over the world, was strangely quiet. Temperature was taken at each entrance to the buildings, there were directions for walking, hydroalcoholic gel dispenser every twenty metres and wearing masks was compulsory even for MEPs.
