The EU aims to “conquer the future”, writes Handelsblatt.
In response to a European budget for research, which, at €70bn, has been deemed to be too low, the responsible European Commissioner, Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, presented on July 10 a series of projects co-financed by the EU and industry.
Between 2014 and 2020, companies like Daimler and Siemens will contribue €10bn to partnerships in which the EU is to invest €12bn, explains the daily. The money will be spent on fuel cell research for non-polluting cars, on more environmentally-friendly planes, and on the development of a new generation of antibiotics.
