Three injured in knife attack at Schuman metro station in Brussels

Three people were injured, one seriously, after a knife attack at Schuman metro station in Brussels on Monday evening, a spokesperson for the Belgian federal police said.

A 30-year-old man was arrested by police inside the metro station.

According to reports from journalists and witnesses on social media, the person who was arrested had tried to attack people in the metro station with a knife.

Brussels Mayor Philippe Close tweeted that it was a knife attack, although police were unable to confirm that, the spokesperson said.

“There is no indication that the motive was related to terrorism at this stage,” a spokesperson for the Brussels public prosecutor said.

The incident took place around at around 6.45 p.m. on a train that was arriving at Schuman station, the prosecutor’s spokesperson said.

Schuman metro station is located at the heart of Brussels’ EU quarter, just under the headquarters of the European Commission.
