Outgoing Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez’s Socialist party won the 28 April early general elections, with 28.7 percent of the ballots.

The main opposition party, the conservative People’s Party (Pp), suffered its largest blow ever, with 16.7 percent of the vote, closely followed by centrist Ciudadanos (15.8 percent), Unidos Podemos (14 percent) and the extreme right-wing party Vox, which makes its entry into Parliament (10.2 percent). Sánchez will need to form a coalition with Basque and Catalan nationalists to get a majority.
