Home Politics Man jailed for plot to kill Theresa May

A man who plotted to kill U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May was jailed for at least 30 years on Friday.

Naa’imur Zakariyah Rahman, 21, who had pledged allegiance to Islamic State, planned to detonate a bomb at the gates of Downing Street and then assassinate May. He was found guilty of preparing acts of terrorism, the BBC reported, and sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 30 years.

During his trial, Rahman admitted helping a friend to join ISIS in Libya by recording a video for the terrorist group. For that crime, he was sentenced to six years in prison to run concurrently with the other sentence.

Rahman, from north London, was captured following an undercover operation involving the Metropolitan Police, MI5 and the FBI.

The judge said Rahman “would have carried out his attack” had he not been arrested and called him “a very dangerous individual.”
