LONDON — U.K. Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt today called for a “change in approach” from the European Commission as he claimed the risk of a no-deal Brexit has increased.
Speaking to reporters in Helsinki after meeting his Finnish counterpart Timo Soini, Hunt warned that “everyone needs to prepare for the possibility of a chaotic no-deal Brexit.”
“I think the risk of a no Brexit deal has been increasing recently … there is absolutely no guarantee that we will get a deal,” Hunt said according to Reuters.
“But it’s not what anyone wants and I hope very much that we’ll find a way to avoid that … the British government has been doing everything it can to avoid that outcome,” he said.
“We do need to see a change in approach by the European Commission.”
As part of a three-day diplomacy tour around northern Europe to sell the U.K.’s Brexit offer, agreed among ministers last month, Hunt will also meet his Latvian, Danish and Dutch counterparts.
