Labour Party wins third term in Malta

by host

The Labour Party in Malta is set for a landslide in the island nation’s general election, according to local media.

Prime Minister Robert Abela confirmed the victory Sunday after the counting of ballots submitted the day before showed his party had won by a margin of 30,000 votes.

This is Labour’s third successive win, putting it on course for another five years in power. Only some 85 percent of people eligible to vote turned up, the lowest number in a general election since the island’s independence.
